A mental health crisis or substance use issue can knock you off your feet. It’s important to know that you’re not alone!

Help is available under the HealthSelect of Texas® and Consumer Directed HealthSelectSM medical plans.

These resources provide support:

  • Primary care provider (PCP). Your PCP can help you find mental health support nearby, suggest a mental health provider or prescribe medication.
  • Mental health Virtual Visit. You can talk to a mental health provider online instead of going to an office. All HealthSelectSM medical plans cover mental health Virtual Visits through Doctor On Demand® and MDLIVE®.
  • Mental health specialist. Your PCP can help you decide if you should see a specialist. Different specialists offer different services. Counselors, therapists, psychologists and psychiatrists all offer mental health care. Certain providers offer a telemedicine option, which is covered the same as an in-person visit.

Emergency resources:

  • 24/7 Mental Health Line: The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas hotline offers mental health crisis support 24 hours a day, seven days a week at (800) 252-8039 (TTY: 711). Ask to speak to a mental health clinician or follow the prompts to get help with a mental health crisis or substance use issue.
  • 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: If you, a family member or friend needs help right away, call or text 988 (TTY: 711, then 988). The online chat at 988lifeline.org is another option. The lifeline provides no-cost, confidential support for people in distress and connects those in need to resources 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
